Epic Games' original idea when creating Fortnite was to focus on Save the World, a cooperative PvE mode where players had to build forts to defend themselves against hordes of enemies in the post-apocalyptic world. However, everything changed when they decided to release a standalone version of the game, inspired by the success of PUBG. The result was the success of Fortnite: Battle Royale, which surpassed its main competitor in number of players.
